Palawan Crocodile Farm

Crocodile Farm and Nature Reserve is one of the tourist spots that is recommended to visit when you go to Palawan. For a very minimal fee of 30 pesos (1SGD) per head at the entrance,you will have the chance to see one of nature's most fascinating and scary animal.

A 5-minute video presentation at the lecture room gave us a background on how crocodiles are born, nurtured, and kept at the farm. I was amazed by how long a crocodile can grow during its life span and actually saw a skeleton of a crocodile, which was about 17 feet long.

In the crocodile nursery area, newly hatched crocodiles are kept until they are strong enough to be with the older ones in open-air cages.




Pictures can be taken while holding baby crocs for a small fee. It was really weird to hold a baby crocodile, especially when it wriggles. The scales feel like broken egg shells laid side by side and the mouth is held tight by several rubber bands to prevent it from biting anyone who holds it.

And as you can see here, I made some pictures myself.

After the 10 minute tour you may wander around the grounds where a variety of animals like eagles, bearded pigs and other unusual animals are penned up in large enclosures.

You can take public transport from Puerto Princesa or hire a tricycle for a day tour for about 400 Pesos. Public transport will be less than 20 peso in a multi cab. Discuss the fare in advance so you and the driver are both satisfied.

Note: Best not to arrive between 11:30am and 1:30pm because you will not be allowed to enter. It is LUNCH break and they all go at the same time;)
